GDPR Compliance: For the purposes of GDPR, we do not collect any data except what is strictly necessary for us to provide the Readback service securely and reliably. We process your data lawfully based on necessity for contract performance, legitimate interests, and your consent where applicable.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account or make purchases, we may collect:

  • Email address (for account creation and communication)
  • Apple ID information (when signing in with Apple)
  • Purchase and subscription information (processed through Apple’s App Store)

Usage Data

To improve the app, we collect anonymized usage analytics such as:

  • App features used
  • Session duration and frequency
  • Device type and operating system version
  • General usage patterns and trends

ATC Communication Data

Important: When you practice ATC communications:

  • Your voice audio is processed entirely on your device. Speech recognition and speech synthesis happen locally and your audio data never leaves your device.
  • The text transcriptions of your communications and the AI controller’s responses are sent to our external LLM (Large Language Model) provider for processing.
  • Our LLM provider may use these text messages for training and improving their models.
  • We retain conversation history to provide you with session playback and learning progress tracking.

Technical Data

We may collect technical information such as:

  • IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Device identifiers
  • Error logs and diagnostics

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Provide and maintain the Readback service
  • Process your ATC training sessions through AI
  • Manage your account and subscriptions
  • Improve app functionality and user experience
  • Analyze usage trends and app performance
  • Provide customer support
  • Send important updates about the service (if you’ve opted in)
  • Detect and prevent technical issues or fraudulent activity

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data with:

  • LLM Service Provider: Text transcriptions of your ATC communications are sent to our external LLM provider for AI processing. This provider may use the data for training their models.
  • Apple: Payment processing and subscription management through the App Store
  • Analytics Services: Anonymized usage data to understand how the app is used
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Hosting and database services to store your account and session data
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or to protect our rights

Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal information

  • Request deletion of your account and associated data

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable timeframe, except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory purposes.

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this privacy policy and applicable laws.

Children’s Privacy

Readback is intended for pilots and student pilots, including those under 18 who are training for their pilot license. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the “Last updated” date. Your continued use of Readback after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
